The Wiz Acquire Dooling In Deal With T-Wolves
GM Toddiec pulled the trigger on a deal Thursday the he hopes will solidify the PG position for many years to come. The Wizards sent Jabari Smith to Minnesota for Keyon Dooling and the Wolves 1st round draft pick in 2003. "It was very hard to trade away Jabari," stated Toddiec at the press conference this morning," but we are very deep at the center and power forward position and needed to get some talent at PG." Toddiec also stated his enthusiasm about getting the Wolves 1st rounder. "Vlade Divac will be close to retirement when 2003 rolls around and we can use that pick to find his replacement", the smiling Toddiec stated.
Keyon Dooling is a 22 year old natural point guard out of the University of Missouri. His averaged 9.2 ppg and 3.0 apg in only 25.1 minutes per game in his rookie season. Dooling never got the chance to start for an extended time, so these stats should only reflect a small portion of his potential. Keyon is currently in the middle of a four year, $13.7 million contract.
Toddiec had to field questions about what this meant for Travis Best, the Wizards current starting PG. "Well, Travis is certainly going to get some competition for the starting job," stated Toddiec,"If I were him, I would start working on cutting down on those fouls". This statement was an obvious jab at Best for his foul as time expired in last years playoffs. The Knicks player made his free throws and the Wizards season was over. Rumor has it that Toddiec is already entertaining offers for Best.
